12 Brands Like Varley for Quiet Luxe Activewear
One pair of leggings and the bra that matches comes to about $190 before you've added anything on top. That's the arithmetic at Varley, where the Always High-Rise Legging is $118 and the FreeSoft Piper Bra is $72. The fabric earns most of it. What's harder to replace is the restraint: black on black, no logo down the thigh, nothing that reads as gym kit once you leave the studio.
The closest brands to Varley are Alo Yoga on fabric, Adanola and TALA on price, and Live The Process on the quiet end of the aesthetic. Twelve made this list. We checked every one on its own storefront this week, dropped four that had stopped selling, and quoted the full price rather than whatever sale tag was showing. Three price in something other than US dollars, and we've said which each time, because a converted figure is a guess.

Alo Yoga is the Los Angeles label that gets recommended first whenever someone leaves Varley, and the reason is the fabric rather than the branding. Alosoft is brushed and light, Airlift is dense and holds you in, and the two do different jobs.
Prices sit close to Varley without matching them. The Alosoft High-Waist 7/8 Highlight Legging is $108 USD and the Airlift High-Waist Suit Up Legging is $144 USD, both in stock at the time of writing. Where Alo diverges is the styling. The campaign imagery leans fashion rather than fitness, and the range now stretches well past leggings into outerwear and bags.

Lululemon
Lululemon sits in the same premium band as Varley and covers far more ground, from running to trousers you could wear to an office. Align and Wunder Train are the two fabrics most people end up choosing between, and they behave nothing alike.
Lululemon's storefront blocks automated price checks, so we haven't quoted figures here. That's a limitation of our checking, not a statement about the brand. What we can say from the product pages that do load is that the palette runs quieter than the marketing suggests, and the resale market for it is deeper than for anything else on this list.

Adanola is the Manchester label that took the Varley look and priced it at £40. The Ultimate Leggings are £40 GBP and the Skinny Strap Yoga Top is £34 GBP, both listed in Chocolate Brown, Walnut Brown and the rest of a palette that could have come off Varley's own site.
Prices show in pounds because the storefront is British, so factor in conversion and duty if you're ordering from elsewhere. The trade-off for the price is fabric weight. Adanola's Modal Soft line is lighter than Varley's FreeSoft, which suits a coffee run better than it suits reformer Pilates.

Girlfriend Collective
Girlfriend Collective runs the widest size range of anything here. The Compressive High-Rise Legging is $108 USD and comes in XXS through 6XL, across three inseam lengths, which is a spread Varley doesn't attempt. The Compressive Pocket Legging is $118 USD.
The palette is where the overlap sits. Lichen, Stone, Umber and Rain are the kind of muted colours Varley builds a season around, and the compression fabric has a matte finish rather than a sheen. It's a flatter, more utilitarian version of the same idea.

Worth knowing before you shop: a large part of the catalogue sits on markdown at any given moment. We counted 914 available variants and only 199 of them at full price, so the figures above are the ceiling rather than what you'll pay. The Exercise Dress that made the brand's name had no full-price stock at all when we checked.
Best for: the days when another black set feels like too much. Prices are in US dollars and the cart confirmed it.
Sweaty Betty
Sweaty Betty is Varley's closest British neighbour and the more technical of the two. The Power UltraSculpt High-Waisted Workout Leggings are $134 USD on the US storefront, in a 62% polyamide and 38% elastane blend, with a bonded waistband and two side pockets.
Compression is the dividing line. Varley's fabrics are built to feel like nothing, while Power is built to hold, which changes what you'd reach for on a running day. The rest of the range does carry prints and colour-blocking, so the quiet end takes a little more filtering to find than it does at Varley.
Best for: one legging that works for lifting and running without a second pair.
TALA
TALA is the other London answer to this question, and it undercuts Varley by roughly half. The SkinLuxe Contrast Piping Legging is £62 GBP and the SoftSet Legging is £52 GBP, with the DayFlex range sitting between them at £59 GBP.
Prices display in pounds, and the naming convention tells you what each fabric does before you read the description, which makes the site faster to shop than most. Shades like Americano, Chai and Chestnut Brown put it in the same neutral territory as Varley, though TALA cuts closer to the body and leans younger in its styling.
Best for: replacing a Varley set without changing what your wardrobe looks like.
Beyond Yoga
Beyond Yoga makes the softest fabric on this list and doesn't pretend otherwise. Spacedye is 87% polyester and 13% elastane, heathered rather than flat, and the Spacedye Vitalize Full Length Legging is $108 USD. The Walk And Talk High Waisted Capri is $99 USD.
This is the brand for the half of Varley's appeal that has nothing to do with exercise. Support is gentle, the waistbands are wide and unstructured, and the whole range is built around lounging as much as moving. If you own Varley for the knits and the sweat sets, this is the closer parallel.
Best for: working from home in something that photographs as an outfit.
Live The Process
Live The Process is the quietest brand on this list and the one that reads least like activewear. Founded by Robyn Berkley and based in Tribeca, New York, it builds ballet-inspired silhouettes in a Raw Cotton line rather than gym tech. The Raw Cotton Orion Legging is $115 USD and the Raw Cotton Ballet Bra is $90 USD.
On certification, read the wording carefully. The brand's sustainability page states that its organic cotton yarn comes from Turkey, "where both the fiber and production facilities are GOTS certified", and that its Portuguese knit mill is certified too. Those certificates are held by the supplier and the mill. The company itself doesn't claim one.
Best for: the Varley customer who wants less shine and more drape.
KORAL
KORAL takes the same premium positioning as Varley and points it somewhere glossier. The Lustrous Infinity High Rise Legging is AUD $125 and the Exceed Blackout High Rise Legging is AUD $145, and the Lustrous finish is the signature: a wet, liquid sheen that catches light.
Those figures are Australian dollars, on the storefront that answered us. The construction is closer to tailoring than to sportswear, with panelling that shapes rather than compresses, and the black pieces read as evening clothes under a coat. It's the least gym-like thing here after Live The Process.
Best for: a pair of leggings you'd wear to dinner.
The Upside
The Upside is the Australian label for the weeks when a plain black set feels like a uniform. Leggings run $119.99 to $129.99 USD at full price, with the Castilla 25in Midi Pant at $129.99 USD, and much of the range carries the brand's own prints.
Discounting is heavy and frequent, so the pant above was showing at $90.99 USD when we looked. The silhouettes stay close to Varley's, high-waisted and long, which means the print is doing the work rather than the cut. Outerwear is the surprise here, including metallic puffers you wouldn't find at any other brand on this list.
Best for: one loud piece in an otherwise neutral drawer.
Vuori
Vuori comes at this from Southern California and from the travel side of the wardrobe. The AllTheFeels Legging is $110 USD in BlissBlend, which the product page describes as 75% recycled material, and the Daily Legging is $98 USD. The Daily Pocket Legging drops to $78 USD.
Brown, bone and washed neutrals dominate, and the fits run looser than everything else here. That's the point of difference. Where Varley builds a set that fits like a second skin, Vuori builds one you can sleep on a plane in, which is why the joggers outsell the leggings.
Best for: long-haul flights and the days either side of them.
Where to Start If You Already Own Varley
Start with Alo Yoga if what you want is another version of the same thing. It's the nearest on fabric and price, and the catalogue is deep enough that you won't run out of neutrals.
If the price is the reason you're reading this, Adanola at £40 and TALA at £52 are the two that hold the look at a fraction of the cost, with the caveat that both price in pounds. And if the workout turned out to be the smallest part of why you bought it, Live The Process and Beyond Yoga make the softest versions of the same idea, one at $115 and one at $99.
